A trailer for the upcoming BlazBlue: Chronophantasma, which will be adding 6 new playable characters, has been released on the Arc System Works official YouTube channel ...
Arc System Works recently released the trailer they showed at ARC SYSTEM WORKS FESTIVAL for the PlayStation 3 version of BlazBlue: Chrono Phantasma, which is scheduled to hit shelves in Japan on October 24. Much of the video is spent hyping up the title’s console-exclusive characters, Kagura Mutsuki and Yuki Terumi, and it provides the first footage we’ve seen of them in action.
If you were waiting for a higher quality version of the trailer before checking it out, now is your chance to see what these new characters have to offer.
The teaser at the end is for the series’ upcoming anime adaptation, BlazBlue: Alter Memory, which was also announced during the company’s anniversary celebration this past weekend.

Hector Sanchez and Paulo Garcia over at NetherRealm Studios have confirmed that a new hotfix is now available for Injustice: Gods Among Us. This quick fix focuses on three distinct glitches: Batgirl’s bolo infinite, Wonder Woman’s back+3 recovery delay, and Joker’s Red Hood costume failing to update to v1.03.
While Batgirl’s back, forward+1 still fails to use a bar upon meter burn, human opponents are now able to block the second bolo in a combo should a normal be whiffed in-between. The delay placed on Wonder Woman’s back+3 recovery has also been fixed, returning it to its original state before v1.03 was rolled out. Lastly, an odd bug made it so that Joker’s changes in the latest build weren’t applied should his Red Hood skin be chosen, and that too has been corrected.
The hotfix will be applied next time you start up the game. If you are online right now, rebooting your system should do the trick. Batgirl’s meter burn glitch will have to be addressed in a future update, but it’s great to see NetherRealm jumping on these problems so soon after they were discovered.

Series regular Hayate was originally introduced as Ein in Dead or Alive 3. Ein utilizes a similar karate style like Hitomi. Virtua Fighter character Jacky Bryant will be included in Ultimate so expect some familiar moves from his Virtua Fighter 5 Final Showdown moveset such as his lightning kicks appearing.
You can check out in-game screenshots of the added characters here! Make sure to stay tuned for more news on DOA5U!
DukeofFortuneMan recently sent over an incredibly useful tutorial for Solomon Grundy in Injustice: Gods Among Us. This video goes over his movement, normals, specials, and other basics before talking about more advanced strategies such as mix-ups, trait usage, and character-specific matchups.
Grundy is a bit unwieldy to use. He’s fast for a grappler, but doesn’t have many defensive tools. Instead, he is best played aggressively, mixing up the opponent and getting the most out of his command grabs. Be sure to check this out no matter your skill level, as Duke covers a wide spectrum of information.

This weekend, May 24-26, Keits will be hosting the ninth installment of his Ultimate Fighting Game Tournament series in Chicago, Illinois. Over the years, these events have come to be known for many things, including the efficiency of their scheduling, a deeper payout system, and the sheer amount of things to do while attending. This year’s tournament is shaping up to be more of the same, only cranked up to eleven. From competition in popular and niche titles alike to other diversions like the fun and games corner and community panels, UFGT9 is sure to have something for everyone to enjoy.
- 15,300 sq/ft ballroom (up from a total of 6,000 sq/ft last year). This massive space will give you all the room you need to game with your friends, compete in our tournaments, or relax in the fun and games area.
- Welcome to Chicago. Our venue is only one stop on the CTA Blue Line train from the O’Hare International Airport. Getting to us has never been easier or cheaper. If you are willing to walk a half mile from the CTA station to the hotel, it will only cost you $2.25 to ride the train. Additionally, the Blue Line train leads right into the heart of Chicago proper. If you want to be a tourist for a day or two, you are certain to love our new location.
- Rooms are available at the special group rate of $79.99/night, only $10 more than in Northbrook. UFGT remains one of the cheapest tournament events you can attend.
- Parking will be completely free for any guest staying overnight for UFGT9, and will be discounted to $10/day for everyone else attending.
- The Crowne will offer a cash concession booth where you can get reasonably priced food and drink. No outside food or drink is allowed, but there are plenty of nearby places to eat just a short walk away.

Similar to last year’s Infinity Gauntlets, Keits has lined up another interesting set of trophies for UFGT9. Fitting with the tournament’s overall theme, first place finishers in the nine games listed below will be awarded chunks of the UFGT Crag.
These beauties measure in at 18″ tall and light up, which should definitely help them stand out in even the most crowded of trophy cases. Two are also set to appear in the tournament raffle, so never fear should you miss out on one during competition.
The Ultimate Payout System (UPS) has been revised for 2013 and will be used on all UFGT9 titles.
The number of players receiving a payout changes when a new entry benchmark is reached. A scaling UPS bonus will be used in order to pay out players who finish in the payscale at 4th place and below.
A Tournament With [X] Number of players will have payouts to the top [Y] number of finishers, which includes a [Z] UPS bonus used to payout 4th and below.
Entries [X] ———– Pays [Y] ————– UPS Bonus [Z] 8-63 ——————- Top 3 ——————- $0 64-159 —————– Top 8 ——————- $100 160-319 —————- Top 16 —————— $300 320+ ——————- Top 32 —————— $750
The top 3 players will be paid out of the main tournament pot as usual. 4th and under will take a flat amount from the UPS Bonus Pool.
1st Place – 60% of the pot 2nd Place – 25% of the pot 3rd Place – 15% of the pot
Divekick Bonus - $1,000 from Iron Galaxy Studios paid down top 8 [1.) 300, 2.) 200, 3.) 150, 4.) 100, 5.) 75, 5.) 75, 7.) 50, 7.) 50]
Also returning from last year are community panels. If you find yourself knocked out of competition early and need something to do, be sure to check these out, as they all promise to be very interesting and insightful looks at our scene. If you aren’t able to attend the tournament or miss out on these panels for any other reason, they are set to be recorded for release sometime after the event is over.
Full descriptions and start times can be found in our original post.
As a stop on the Road to EVO 2013, top 16 finishers in the official EVO games at UFGT9 will be awarded seeding points. This is the second to last stop, to be followed by Community Effort Orland 2013.
This year’s streams will be covered by the folks at Level|Up Series and VG Bootcamp. If you are unable to attend UFGT9, they will be providing full coverage all weekend, so be sure to tune in.
Like every major tournament, UFGT9 will be brought to you with the help of some fantastic sponsors. Supporters of this year’s event include Mad Catz, Atlus, Iron Galaxy Studios, Focus Fire, UDON, and One True Game Studios.

Japanese developer and publisher Capcom commissioned projects to be developed outside their main production studios. Chicago-based group Iron Galaxy Studios became part of the plan and would later serve something more: they were going to work on Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike Online Edition.
"Street Fighter is actually a Capcom U.S. owned franchise I believe, so when they decided to do that game the U.S. team got to pick who would be working on it," said Iron Galaxy CEO Dave Lang. "[Iron Galaxy] had a great relationship with Capcom, and they were confident our technical proficiency would be most valuable on that project."
This effort by Lang and Iron Galaxy would establish their ground as one of the prominent developers within the worldwide fighting game industry and community.

Well, that didn’t take long. Batgirl was released as Injustice: Gods Among Us’ second downloadable character today, and it’s recently been discovered that she has a fairly easy infinite. While her back, forward+1 normally causes a hard knockdown when used twice in a combo, whiffing a normal allows players to perform the bola’s meter burn ad nauseum without actually using a single bar.
Luckily, this may only require a simple fix, so expect one from NetherRealm in the near future. While we wait though, feel free to check out Nerdjosh’s follow-up video, which covers a few setups for the infinite.

Hayate’s alter ego Ein and Jacky Bryant from Virtua Fighter will be joining the cast of Dead or Alive 5 in the Ultimate update, Famitsu reports. According to Siliconera, the latest issue of the popular Japanese magazine revealed the appearance of these two fighters alongside Ninja Gaiden’s Momoji and Leon, who were revealed last month in the game’s first trailer.
Neither should come as much of a surprise, as Ein was one of the few series regulars who failed to transition to Dead or Alive 5 and Jacky will be following in the footsteps of fellow Virtua Fighter cast members Akira Yuki, Pai Chan, and sister Sarah Bryant.
Information is incredibly scarce at this time, but a Japanese release date of September 5 was also mentioned. We’ll be sure to keep you updated as more details are released. For now, let us know what you think of these additions in the comments below.

Lab Zero Games CEO Peter “Ravidrath” Bartholow recently updated the Skullgirls Indiegogo page with the long-awaited stats of the two character votes the studio held to decide future downloadable characters for their fighting title. As the two campaigns operated under different voting processes, the first offers the percentage of votes the eligible cast members gained in each round while the second provided a straight-forward list of popularity rankings.
One interesting thing to note is Eliza’s dominance throughout all phases of the first vote. Isaac also appeared very strong, but gradually slipped out of the running as the pool of characters began to shrink. Second vote winner Beowulf picked up a ton of steam between the two campaigns, edging out heavy favorites like Annie and Minette that beat him out consistently in the first vote.

These are just four examples, with many more tucked away inside the game. It's a fun bit of worldbuilding from Dontnod, and surely something fans of story/plot will enjoy. I really like the "I remembered / I forgot" voting system, which is a subtle reminder of how commoditized memories are in this world.

UPDATE – Two more Batgirl combo videos have been added below.
With any new release, you’re going to have a ton of content produced by members of the community to show it off. Earlier today, Batgirl was released for Injustice: Gods Among Us, and we have a few great looks at the character thanks to some faithful video uploaders.
First off, Team Spooky’s Arturo Sanchez and Nerdjosh put together an overview that clocks in at just under fifteen minutes. Here, they spend time playing around with the character and discussing what they see regarding her strengths and weaknesses. Both served as testers on the game during its development but had no time with the downloadable characters, making their off-the-cuff analysis an interesting watch.
Next, Maximilian’s latest video demonstrates a variety of day one combos. These should provide a good foundation for those looking to pick Batgirl up.
Level|Up Series’ Alex Valle spent some time with Batgirl on his stream when she was released, running through her normals, strings, and specials. That segment begins around 10:16:30, but be sure to give the rest of the archive some of your time too, as it includes a ton of practice and online footage from Valle’s UFGT9 training session.

A few weeks back we reported on an interesting new glitch in Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 that allows players to control two characters at the same time under very specific circumstances.
Pen Ninja recently produced a combo video with multiple teams using said glitch. As an extra challenge, a majority of the combos featured in this video avoid the use of any loops and infinites with moves that avoid hitstun decay. The result is an impressive display of fast, stunning and at times even humorous dual-character combos. Check it out below.

This morning, Injustice: Gods Among Us saw the release of its second downloadable character, Batgirl. In an effort to help fans who aren’t familiar with comics catch up on her story, the folks behind the DC Comics fighter released a video detailing some of the major moments in her history.
Batgirl is now available to purchase on PlayStation Network and Xbox Live for $4.99 / 400 MSP. Similar to Lobo, she comes with a brand new update, the full patch notes of which you can read in our previous post.
Two new skins packs were also released today, providing updated looks for a few of the game’s cast. The Killing Joke bundle contains three alternates for Joker based off Alan Moore’s famous graphic novel, and the Red Son pack features new costumes for Superman, Solomon Grundy, and Wonder Woman as well as 20 additional S.T.A.R. Labs missions inspired by the alternate storyline. Previously a Gamestop pre-order exclusive, it can now be downloaded by the community at large.
Both of these skin packs will set you back $2.99 / 240 MSP, though the latter only appears in the Xbox Live Marketplace and not the title’s built-in downloadable content menu.
Finally, today also saw the release of a single free skin. Luchador Bane is bundled with the aforementioned update, bringing everyone who downloads it up to v1.03.

Skullgirls made quite a splash when it arrived on the Japanese PlayStation Network back in February, and a recent development regarding its future in the country shows that the indie fighter’s domination is far from finished. An image appeared online earlier this evening that reveals the game will be making its way to arcades in Japan by way of NESiCAxLive, the network system utilized by other major fighters.
This information was subsequently confirmed by Lab Zero Games CEO Peter “Ravidrath” Bartholow, who also divulged that the port is being handled by a Japanese developer. When asked if it would include the five characters funded through their fundraising campaign, Bartholow said that it should be released as soon as possible, and thus, the new cast members will be added to the game through updates.
Since this information is basically a leak at this point, Bartholow said that he will have to wait to reveal the developer behind the port. In any case, this is a fantastic accomplishment for the Skullgirls team, and we would like to congratulate them on this expansion of their franchise.
While Tron Bonne didn’t make the transition from vanilla quite as smoothly as other characters, Rikir recently put together an interesting combo video for Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 that shows she can be still utilized in a variety of teams. He admits that some of the combos shown here aren’t optimized, but the video should still serve as a good resource if you’re looking to plan out a new team with the sky pirate.

Tomorrow, Sony will be launching a brand new discount promotion for the PlayStation Network with Ultimate Edition bundles for many popular titles. Each Ultimate Edition will come with the digital version of the game as well as any downloadable content that has been released between its release and now.
To celebrate their launch, each of the first Ultimate bundles will be discounted even further. Persona 4 Arena, Arc System Works’ collaboration with Atlus based off the popular RPG series, is set to be included in this first group of ten. If you haven’t grabbed it already, you’ll be able to snag a digital copy of the game as well as all the bonus color variations, glasses, and navigation voices that were offered when the game was first released.
While this would normally add up to $59.91, the Persona 4 Arena Ultimate Edition bundle will be available tomorrow at a price of $39.99, or $27.99 if you happen to be a PlayStation Plus subscriber. This is definitely worth looking into if you want all the bells and whistles that have been made available for the game, but those not looking for mere aesthetic additions will probably want to steer clear.

We usually don’t post videos featuring only one combo, but TomSinister03110‘s Evil Ryu combo is just too stylish to resist. In total, it costs 7 bars (observing normal meter rules), includes 17 one-frame links, and deals 710 damage. It is done against Rufus in this video because of his low stun rating. The stun is necessary to build meter using light Shoryukens in order to make the final link to ultra work.
Give it some of your attention and let us know your thoughts in the comments.

UPDATE – Due to a cancellation by Team AGE, the “Victory, Controversy, & Promo Codes” panel will be replaced by “Testers Among Us” featuring Carl “Perfect Legend” White and Empire Arcadia’s Bill “Tom Brady” Menoutis, the full details of which have been included below.
For many years now Perfect Legend and Tom Brady have come to symbolize both what it means to excel at a game, and what it means to champion a community removed from the decades developed interest shown to Capcom properties. With accolades and successes, both within their games and within the fighting game business as a whole, both these players compete to live up to the weighty expectation and underestimated skill-sets simultaneously put upon them. Most recently Perfect Legend & Tom Brady took part in the Injustice: Gods Among Us player tests and strategy guide development, using their long developed gaming knowledge to help give back to the studio whose games have brought them respect. Join us for an in-depth look at the type of resolve necessary to become a champion, and the views of two men helping to balance modern fighting games.
Panel features a brief lecture and open Q&A with the hosts.
Planning to attend Ultimate Fighting Game Tournament 9 in Chicago, Illinois next weekend but worried about what you’re going to do should you be eliminated early from your games of choice? As always, Keits has got you covered. May 25th will play host to four community panels with four very distinct and interesting topics. Summaries for each have been included below, so be sure to check them out if you find yourself needing something to do on Saturday.
In the past couple years Aftlerglow Elite has risen to signify 2 things in the fighting game community, the omnipresence of valuable coupon codes, and the presence of some of the FGC’s winningest competitors. Led by the incredibly vocal Loren “Fanatiq” Riley, and championed by Marvel’s most consistent player in Chris “NYChrisG” Gonzalez, Afterglow Elite continues to grow year after year with competitive additions like Ray “Knives” Ruballos, Daryl “Snake Eyez” Lewis, and Peter “FlashMetroid” Susini, all while winning some of the FGC’s most prestigious tournaments. Come discover how Team AGE came to be, what drives the them to their success, and how the brand handles both controversy and prestige.
Panel features an overview and history of Team AGE as well as an open Q&A with team representatives.
The FGC has been around for decades, with many a player growing up enamored with the community. Sometimes, as the tourneys tick by, a few players begin to seek for ways to give back to the scene thats birthed them, becoming purveyors of content, products, and promotions designed to progress the tournament scene into something bigger, something better. Join Level-Up’s Alex Valle, Mad Catz’s Mark “Markman” Julio, Kineda’s Terry “Kineda” Ng, Team Spooky’s Victor “Spooky” Fontanez, and Focus Fire’s Rick Thiher as they discuss how their services, products, and businesses evolved from a love of the FGC, and where they hope to take them. Discuss the trials and tribulations of businesses built on love, and find out what goes into keeping the FGC moving forward.
Panel features a brief history of the hosts followed by an open Q&A.
Come join a discussion about the progress of E-sports in the global gaming community and its often difficult relationship with the FGC. How does the current FGC relate to the global spectator phenomenon of League of Legends? Are we a community growing to that level or have we reached the apex of spectator interest? Hear from both content providers and consumers alike as we attempt to analyze the FGC’s place in the ever evolving world of competitive gaming. Featuring insightful hosting from TwitchTV’s Ben “Fishstix” Goldhaber, UltraChenTV’s David “UltraDavid” Graham, and the Midwest’s Brandon “TuboWare” Brockman.
Panel features a brief lecture and open Q&A with the hosts.
How does one become a spokesperson for an entire community, enjoy the iconically ironic nickname of “the best,” all without winning any of our scene’s grandest prizes? The answer, as showcased by Mike “Mike Ross” Ross is simple, always strive to be the best player you can be, and never forget to hope for more. Find out how Mike Ross went from a simple gamer who didn’t own a console, to one-half of Cross Counter’s progressive Excellent Adventures programming, to most recently the proud FGC spokesman of IPL’s defunct fighting game division, all in the span of 5 short years. From plinks to guitar riffs to stream shows, find out what its like to be “the Best.”
Panel features a lecture and an open Q&A.

Smooth McGroove is back in the habit of cranking out game covers utilizing nothing but his own mouth. And thank the stars and heavens, he just so happened to choose one of the best NES anthems of all time…
We’ve previously expressed much joy over the A Capella remixes from Smooth McGroove , but this one’s more than a little near and dear to my heart. This time he's taking on what's probably my favorite VGM jams from the entire NES library, DuckTales’ “The Moon” Theme!

Mike Z recently updated his online to-do list with all of the new changes from last week’s Salty Cupcakes build. These changes are the same ones that we got to see at East Coast Throwdown V this past weekend. The most profound are tweaks to Painwheel and her Hatred Install. Many of the players at ECTV said that they instantly made Painwheel the most powerful character in the game, as her combos are virtually untouched by the alterations to the IPS, and level 2 Hatred Install with extended time based on the health she has left allows her to utilize it for most of the match.
- Peacock item drops: L behaves like old L, stationary; M, closest half of screen homing; H, farther half of screen homing.
- Allow cancel from jump-start to ground preblock (suki); see how much this hurts up-back
- Fix palette effects vs superflash colors
- Air attacks now turn around during chains in superjumps if the opponent is behind you
- Revert Filia’s HK airball hitstun change
Fix up Parasoul’s float
- j.MK +2f hitstun
- Auto-floats from j.MK without any input
- Drifts higher/farther/longer/faster
- Can cancel on hit/block immediately, into any button except itself
- Can cancel after 9f on whiff to any button except itself
- No longer gives meter on whiff
- Can bomb-jump off exploding tears; sets off tears if the attack hits them
Parasoul B+HK improvements
- Bounce vs air
- 30f -> 23f (does not combo off anything, but is now a good frametrap)
- 1000 dmg -> 1200 dmg
- Pre-block and block-idle throw invincible if B+EnemyClose; not true ever for post-block
- Fortune head re-attach success 26f->17f, supercancellable the entire time.
- Fortune j.HP back to regular frame data, hitbox larger; dmg 900->975, hitstun 18->22f. Now combos into Head Spike.
- Cerebella reflect shot now wallbounces, cales followup combos to 25%. Likely this is way too good.
PW Hatred install -> Lv2, this way install+super is Lv3
- Death Crawl / air super do less damage (than before) without install, more with it
- Air super loses ground bounce in install; c’mon now, for 2 levels?
- Timer adjusted, +1 sec at full health
- DHCing into it costs 1 meter, as you’d expect
- Can buffer your next attack during the last 30f of the animation
- Post-flash recovery 7f->3f, invincible for the entire thing
Cat heads Lv2? HAHAHAHAHAH You know what, how ‘bout let’s try it.
- Cat heads -> Lv2, DHCing into it still costs 1 meter, as you’d expect
- Damage per hit 100->200 (minimum 20->40), chip remains the same (33).
- Allowed to build up to 1 level back during the move.
Mike also included the first two changes he will be trying out at this week’s Salty Cupcakes. The first will allow Peacock to call level 3 item drops as an assist, while the second will allow Cerebella to use her command run followups as assists, both of which seem very interesting and powerful.
Archives of the current Skullgirls build being played at Salty Cupcakes and East Coast Throwdown V can be found below.
